LCD (liquid crystal display) is an electronic display unit that uses liquid crystals as the display element. These liquid crystals are arranged into pixels between two glass layers in front of a light source. The pixels can be monochrome (black and white) or colour, and they are sensitive to electrical voltage. Their arrangement changes depending on the applied voltage. Under normal circumstances, the liquid crystals in the pixels are unaligned, and light passes through them without any effect. However, when an electrical voltage is applied, their arrangement changes and light is either blocked or allowed to pass through, creating an image. This type of display is characterized by its thin and flat construction. It has low power consumption, making it suitable for display devices in electronic devices powered by batteries.
