ADATA – 2nd largest manufacturer of DRAM modules and branded SSDs all over the world

ADATA Technology Co., Ltd was founded in 2001. The company headquarters is in Taipei, Taiwan. ADATA is one of the global leaders in this field and has been evaluated as the 2nd worldwide manufacturer of DRAM modules (TrendForce, 2021) and the 2nd worldwide manufacturer of branded SSDs (DRAMeXchange, 2020).
SSDs by ADATA
ADATA offers a broad range of SSDs (Solid State Drives) based on SLC, MLC and TLC NAND flash memories and in all common form factors.
“Our offer has been enriched by the 2.5”, mSATA full-size, M.2 2242 and M.2 2280 SSDs based on 112-layer WD/Kioxia TLC BiCS5 NAND flash chips that have become de facto a new industry standard,” says Miroslav Piskor, product specialist at SOS electronic.

Depending on the series, it is possible to supply the following SSDs:
- With PLP (Power Loss Protection). These SSDs contain tantalum polymer capacitors which, in the event of a power failure, serve as a backup source for the time required to write data from the DRAM cache to the flash memories.
- With A+ SLC, i.e. with modified firmware that writes only one bit instead of three to the TLC NAND flash, thus increasing the number of programming/erasing cycles from 3,000 to 30,000.
- With A+ OPAL. These SSDs are fully compatible with the TCG OPAL 2.0 specification, provide HW encryption with an AES 256-bit key and enable to make data immediately inaccessible by destroying the AES key.
ADATA provides A+ SSDTOOL monitoring tool that displays disk information, estimated lifespan, SMART attributes and system information. It allows you to start a security wipe and set the minimum and maximum temperature, remaining disk capacity and lifespan at which an email is sent to a predefined address.

SSDs with or without DRAM cache
In general, DRAM cache improves random read and write performance. Based on the data in the table below, SSDs with DRAM cache provide:
- Average 4K read IOPS improvement: 69%, standard deviation: 43%
- Average 4K write IOPS improvement: 12%, standard deviation: 12%.
SATA vs PCIe 3.0 [x4]
SSDs with PCIe 3.0 [x4] offer excellent sequential read/write performance as well as significant improvements in random read/write performance (IOPS). Based on the data in the table below, M.2 SSDs with a PCIe 3.0 [x4] interface compared to M.2 SATA SSDs without a DRAM buffer provide:
- Average 4K read IOPS improvement: 130%, standard deviation: 60%
- Average 4K write IOPS improvement: 30%, standard deviation:25%

DRAM Modules by ADATA
ADATA offers DRAM (Dynamic Random Access Memory) DDR3L, DDR4 and DDR5 modules for embedded systems and servers.
Upon request, ADATA modules can be supplied:
- with 30um gold-plated contacts
- protected against dust and moisture by conformal coating
- equipped with components resistant to corrosion caused by fumes from sulphur compounds.
From a wide offer of ADATA DRAM modules, we are focusing on SODIMM DDR3L 1600, DDR4 3200 and DDR5 4800 DRAM for our embedded systems. Modules in our offer use Samsung memory chips which can be easily decoded from the module type.
For example, AD4I320038G22-BSSC:
- AD: ADATA
- 4: DDR4
- I: SODIMM wide temperature range -40…+85˚C
- 3200: 3200MT/s
- 8G: 8GB
- 22: CL=22
- B: Bulk package
- SS: Samsung
- C: Die version C

Memory Cards ADATA
ADATA Technology Co., Ltd. also has memory cards in microSD, SD, CFast and Compact Flash format in its product range.
“In the SOS electronic offer, we have included microSD and SD cards based on SLC, MLC and TLC NAND flash chips that support the SMART function. Selected types are available with A+ SLC firmware upon request,” says Miroslav Piskor.
