Pinrex 721 series – the most common type of WTB connectors

WTB (wire-to-board) connectors with a central line pitch of 2.0 mm are designed for general use. They are cost-effective and so similar to the PH series connectors from JST that they are interchangeable.

They are manufactured with pin counts ranging from 2 to 16, and the SMD versions are made from heat-resistant plastic suitable for the reflow soldering process.

• THT right angle: 721-72-04TW09,
• SMD right angle: 721-94-04TWR9,
• SMD straight: 721-93-04TWE9,
• Cable straight: 721-75-04W009,

• Suitable wires include L1SW100, LIFY008-SET5X10 or LA 014-10BK = L1SW10,
• Ready-made wires with contacts SPH-200BK26 or W721AWG26BK30 are also suitable for these connectors.

For Pinrex WTB connectors, you can comfortably use the WC-240 crimping tool from JST, designed for wire copper cross-sections AWG 30, AWG 28, and AWG 26. 

"Despite the contacts being very small, working with these crimping tools is very pleasant, and the contact is properly crimped. These crimping tools include a so-called locator (contact locator with insulation-stop), into which we place the contact – thus determining its exact position. We then place the partially stripped wire and crimp the contact. During the work, I used a table magnifier with lighting TO-7453173 to ensure the stripped part of the wire was in the correct position and at the correct depth. These crimping tools belong to the middle category of hand crimping tools in terms of quality and price," said František Ďuríšek.

We personally tested the WTB connectors from Pinrex, including their compatibility with ready-made wires with SPH-200BK26 contacts. 

"I crimped several Pinrex contacts using WC-240 crimping pliers. At the same time, I also tested the work with PH series connectors from JST to make sure of their mutual compatibility.
