Quick connect terminal 1-160759-1, in combination with housing 520961-1, is suitable as a test connector for testing new devices. In the second case, the cost-effective solution 2238174-3 is ideal for mass serial production. We have also identified suitable sleeves, housings, and crimping pliers for quick connect terminals in our range from the same manufacturer.
Where does the designation "faston" come from?
To begin with, very briefly, the name Faston is currently a trademark owned by TE Connectivity. Therefore, most distribution companies or manufacturers call these connectors differently. Besides the term "faston," these connectors are commonly referred to as positive lock, quick connect, quick connect terminal, or quick disconnect.
At SOS electronic, we have adopted a uniform designation of "quick connect terminals" so that it is clear in every language what type of connector is being referred to.
Uninsulated 6.3mm/0.8mm quick connect terminals from TE Connectivity
We have selected two solutions for connecting devices, such as batteries, power connectors, or indicators, using quick connect terminal directly from the manufacturer, TE Connectivity. There are numerous different types of quick connect terminals available on the market, and in our range alone, you can find over 600 different types.

Quick connect terminal 1-160759-1, which has all the characteristics of a full-fledged single-pole connector, including frequent disconnection capability. Quick connect terminal 2238174-3 will serve as a reliable, yet also detachable connection for mass production when needed. 1. Quick connect terminal 1-160759-1
Recently, we have added the TE Connectivity‘s 1-160759-1 quick connect terminal to our range, which caught our attention with its design.
"Its main advantage lies in lower insertion forces because it operates on a different principle of connector insertion. This type is called a 'positive lock receptacle'. Upon correct insertion, a distinct click can be heard, indicating that the connector is securely held and has no tendency to loosen even over time. To disconnect this connector, we must press a lever. You should definitely try this connection; such a design is not common at all," adds František Ďuríšek. |
Due to its reliable and stable connection and disconnection, the combination of quick connect terminal 1-160759-1 with insulating housing 520961-1 is suitable not only for regular use but also as a test connector.
Key parameters of 1-160759-1 quick connect terminal:
- For Cu cross-sections from 0.5 to 1.6 mm²
- For outer conductor diameters from 2.3 to 3.3 mm
- Suitable for up to 110°C
- Made of brass and tin-plated
If you need a more temperature-resistant quick connect terminal, for example, for heating elements, we recommend using type 2-160759-9, which is made of steel and suitable for a wider temperature range from -40 to +250°C.
Accessories suitable for 1-160759-1 quick connect terminal:
- Nylon insulation housing 520961-1 in black, with the possibility of pressing a lever for connector disconnection.
- Transparent nylon insulation housing with a simpler design but equally secure hold 154719-1.
- Red nylon insulation housing 154719-2 for color differentiation, for example, for positive polarity. Such housings are available in various colors.
- Specifically for this quick connect terminal, the manufacturer recommends crimping pliers 654174-1. These are higher-priced crimping pliers but precisely designed for this type of quick connect terminal.
During testing, we used quality but universal crimping pliers for quick connect terminals. For our purposes, the crimping results were satisfactory, but when crimping a larger quantity, we suggest opting for the recommended solution, which is ultimately much more effective.

2. Cost-effective quick connect terminal 42238-2 for mass production
For mass deployment in production, we often need the most cost-effective solution possible. In such cases, the uninsulated quick connect terminal 42238-2 can serve us very reliably.
The key parameters of 42238-2 are the same as the previous connector described above. The difference is that although this quick connect terminal is also detachable, it is not as comfortable to detach as in the first case.

- Suitable crimping pliers 720725-1
When is it worthwhile to use crimping pliers and when a crimping machine?
A separate chapter in crimping is the selection of the right crimping pliers for quick connect terminals or the decision to acquire a crimping machine.
In our range, we have several universal crimping pliers from various suppliers suitable for less frequent service operations and requiring great operator skill. When selecting, the most important consideration is the quality requirements of the crimped joint. Equally important in crimping with pliers is the operator's skill.
"From my own experience, I can say that it is definitely more advantageous to invest in quality crimping pliers designed for a specific type. A more expensive solution is much more effective for regular crimping than spending time searching for compromises and trying unknown or unverified pliers. Of course, it is important to recognize the line between when we pay for the quality of crimping tools and when we pay just for the brand," concludes František Ďuríšek.
