CH120-MSD series

In March 2022, Apacer launched the first BiCS5 memory-based product available for the temperature range - 40… 85˚C.

Compared to CH110-MSD, CH120-MSD series offers the same features - SDHC (SDXC), C10, UHS-I U3, V30, SPI Mode and SMART for almost the same price. Although not specified in the datasheet, it fulfills the requirements of A1 performance class (500 IOPS write, 1500 IOPS read and sustained write 10MB/s.)

Table below summarizes performance and other parameters (pdf).

Brief history of BiCS 3D NAND FLASH

BiCS stands for "bit column stacked" and indicates the 3D NAND technology. The first generation of BiCS was never mass-produced. The second-generation chips had 48 layers and were used in memory cards and smartphones, but their presence in the SSD market was negligible.

Which 3D NAND Flash memories are in the lead?

According to DRAMeXchange statistics, 85% of 3D NAND flash memories with more than 92 layers and only 12% with 64/72 layers were produced in the first quarter of 2022, and the transition process to 112 or more layers is about to continue.
