Do you know the abbreviation „WYSIWYG“ alias „what you see is what you get“? Even though it may seem excessive or unbelievable, it´s really possible to design a serious graphic application, including a touch panel only using a „drag and drop“ method.
Intelligent displays from 4D Systems are probably already familiar to you from our recent articles. Free software tool 4D Workshop4 IDE intended for development with these displays enables designing in the 4DGL language (similar to C) and mainly it also enables designing an application fully graphically – by placing the pre-prepared widgets like push-buttons, switches, panel meters, indicators, graphic symbols, text fields and also your images and videos.
Almost every such object can be customized according to one's own ideas and linked to each other by different actions– for example after pushing a switch (on the display), a LED should light up (on the display) and also send out a code controlling a connected device of the display module. Similarly, a panel meter can indicate value read from I/O ports, etc.
Such a graphic environment is fully sufficient to create many simpler applications. Yes, it´s worth mentioning that to develop a truly complicated applications and algorithms, it´s better to program “classically” by writing a code. But even in this second case, the 4D Workshop4 tool can be helpful as many things can be checked and simulated in it.
Even more powerful is then the Pro version of the 4D workshop4 IDE. The license can also be bought via our webshop.
Current, already 4-th generation of 4D Systems displays marked as gen4 xxx is available in sizes from 2,8“ to 7“ with a resistive and capacitive touch panel, also in a version with an attractive black glass bezel (CLB) as well as in a super bright version (SB).
As an accessory, also available are high quality plastic bezels with brass bushings in a white and a black colour.
