The product standard prepares a fast journey to the market

Have you ever wondered where the standard, based on which the electrical device is to be used, comes from? Who wrote it? Who tried it, tested, and decided on details in order to make it safe?
This is an archive article published 06/12/2018. Some information may no longer be up to date and in line with the current state. Please contact us in case of interest.

The answer is the IEC National Committee. It is a worldwide non-profit organization for the preparation and publication of international standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies.
The IEC creates the place and space for discussion for companies, industries and governments of the individual countries. The organization's publications serve as the basis for country-specific standards.

It employs nearly 200,000 professionals from different companies, industries, governments. They negotiate the rules that are needed to design, manufacture, operate, test and repair millions of electrical equipment so that they operate safely and as expected. These experts work on the performance, efficiency and reliability of the products that use or produce the electricity, or contain electronics.

Thousands of companies work together within the committee. From small to large, international companies. They share the same goal: to sell on foreign markets faster and at a lower cost. The participation in the committee offers them the space for technical and professional interaction with other companies.

1 certificate is valid on many markets
IEC helps to make testing transparent and comparable between individual countries. For example, the company gets an access to many other markets directly by manufacturing the product under IEC international standards and by testing the product with the IAC CA (conformity assessment) system. They just need to do it once and on one market. The assessment report issued by the testing laboratory in the IEC country A is also valid in all other IEC member countries.

And now the good news. You can also participate in creating standards and thus help your company. For more details, check the IEC in your country.
