Interview with Geehy Semiconductor: We aim to provide added value to our customers

We spoke with Serena Wand, Export Director of International Sales at Geehy Semiconductor about the development of market trends in the coming years. In an interview with Mrs. Serena Wand, Export Director of Intl. Sales, at Geehy Semiconductor, we recently discussed the latest advances in technology and chip products, the company's strategic direction, and how they envision market trends developing over the next five years. 

Geehy company has been making headlines lately with its advancements in technology and chip products. Could you share some of the latest breakthroughs and updates from Geehy?

In 2024, Geehy is ramping up its chip research and development efforts in the industrial control, automotive electronics, and new energy sectors. Specifically targeting the high-end industrial automation market, we are set to launch the G32R501 series, a high-performance real-time control MCU based on the Cortex-M52 core. This addition will significantly bolster our APM32 series, catering to industrial-grade MCU needs. For the motor drive segment, we are gearing up to unveil the APM32M3514 motor control dedicated MCU, which integrates a 200V 6N Pre-Driver and LDO, along with the GHD3440 motor-specific gate driver. These innovations address diverse customer demands in the motor drive market.

Simultaneously, Geehy is making strategic moves in the rapidly evolving automotive electronics. Our focus lies on applications such as body control, automatic parking, and intelligent lighting. This year, we are introducing three major automotive electronic chip product lineups compliant with the ISO 26262 functional safety standard:

  • G32A1445/1465 series: Next-gen automotive MCU with a 40nm advanced process, Cortex-M4F core, and AUTOSAR MCAL driver software.
  • GALT61120 series: Automotive headlamp LED matrix controller enabling multi-channel LED driving, high-speed communication, pixel-level LED control, dynamic adaptive lighting, and intelligent safety lighting.

With the rapid evolution of technology, developers often face unique challenges. From Geehy company's perspective, what are some of the key obstacles developers encounter in the electronic industry?

Developers in the electronics industry are currently facing various challenges. The reliability and quality requirements of chips for downstream application areas, particularly in automotive electronics and industrial control systems, are becoming increasingly stringent. These scenarios demand high security, stability, environmental adaptability, and consistency from the chips. Moreover, with rapidly evolving technology, market demands are becoming more diversified. Enterprises, therefore, need to accelerate innovation and shorten the overall development cycle to keep up with these demands.

Upstream chip developers should not only focus on the chip itself but also concentrate on the ecosystem around the chip. Developing supporting software, reference design, and providing technical support will help downstream customers accelerate the application of the program on the ground. The only way for developers to create value for the industry and customers is to face the challenges head-on and continue to make efforts in core technology, market response, ecological construction, and supply security. This will help them win a place in the fierce competition.

Looking forward to the future, what strategic initiatives does Geehy have in store for 2024? Are there any significant goals or milestones the company is aiming to achieve?

In 2024, Geehy will continue to concentrate on automotive electronics and industrial control. We aim to establish stronger partnerships with local companies in the European market, not only in terms of products but also for subsequent development and ecological cooperation. We look forward to deeper exchanges and collaborations.

Education is crucial for nurturing talent in the technology sector. What advice or areas of focus would Geehy recommend for students pursuing careers in electronics and telecommunications?

The development of exceptional talents in the field of electronics and communications requires the joint efforts of Industry-Academia Collaboration. Students need to focus on improving their practical engineering skills while building a strong foundation in theory. The electronics and communications industry primarily involves engineering practice. So, while theory is significant, it is crucial to have practical skills. Currently, the industry is experiencing a new wave of technological advancements, creating tremendous opportunities for growth, and higher expectations for professionals. Hence, students should stay updated with the latest technology trends and industry dynamics by attending academic conferences and seeking out the latest developments at the forefront of the field. 

The responsibility of nurturing talent should not be solely on the education system; enterprises should also play an active role in this process. Geehy supports, leads, and motivates more young engineers to solve specific problems. In terms of product innovation, we encourage young engineers to innovate, take on projects independently, and seize opportunities to display themselves. Additionally, Geehy has organized a series of events aimed at university students, such as development kit activities and campus competitions. These initiatives aim to provide more support for teaching and research in universities, create more opportunities for students to showcase their abilities, and collaborate with academia to cultivate more outstanding talent for the industry.

Anticipating market trends can be tricky, especially in an ever-changing technology landscape. How does Geehy foresee the evolution of market trends over the next five years?

Geehy foresees a significant shift toward integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into Microcontrollers (MCUs) for edge deployment, becoming a mainstream trend. Analysts at Gartner predict that AI capabilities will standardize in embedded products within 2-5 years. This aligns with the rapid advancement of sectors like IoT, industrial control, smart homes, and 5G, increasing demands on MCU performance. Integrating AI accelerators into edge MCUs allows for complex AI computations at the edge, reducing CPU workload and enhancing device intelligence, efficiency, security, and function expansion.

Furthermore, Arm's recent introduction of the Cortex-M52 processor, utilizing Helium vector processing technology on the Arm v8.1-m architecture, reflects a move towards low-power, low-cost AI applications with enhanced computing speed. Geehy is poised to lead with MCUs based on Arm Cortex-M52, tailored for AI application scenarios. This innovative product supports dual-core operation, providing superior real-time control computing power and high-performance peripherals, enhancing system control precision, and meeting diverse AI application requirements.

For industrial control, Geehy's APM32 series meets the market demand for high-performance and rapid time-to-market solutions. These MCUs, based on Arm Cortex-M0+/M3/M4F cores, integrate real-time performance, stability, security, multifunctionality, and compatibility. The portfolio includes interconnected MCUs, MCU+touch products, and MCU+sensor products.

For automotive applications, Geehy's APM32A automotive-grade MCUs are certified with AEC-Q100, offering efficient CPU processing performance, enhanced storage, and comprehensive connectivity functions to meet the reliability and temperature requirements of automotive chips, addressing communication and body control application needs and have been mass-produced and validated in multiple projects.

In support of automotive innovation towards connectivity, autonomy, sharing, and electrification (CASE), Geehy's G32A automotive MCUs cover Arm Cortex-M0+/M3/M4F cores, providing MCAL compliant with AUTOSAR standards, AEC-Q100 certification, ISO 26262 ASIL-B~D compliance, and security encryption modules, ensuring information security and functional safety.

For motor applications, the APM32 motor control dedicated MCUs integrate the M0CP coprocessor, offering FOC control algorithms and rich analog/connectivity functions for enhanced motor attributes and efficiency, along with a seamless development experience through Geehy's motor algorithm platform.

In smart home and IoT, Geehy's GW low-power Bluetooth MCUs, like the GW8811 series based on Arm Cortex-M0 and GW3323 series based on the RISC-V core, feature low power consumption and high-efficiency transmission rates, enabling innovative applications at competitive costs.

Can you name some of your successful cooperations with significant partners? 

Geehy has forged strong partnerships with renowned distributors and manufacturers across Europe, especially in key sectors like automotive electronics, consumer electronics, and industrial control. Together, we've introduced a range of reliable and scalable mass-production solutions.

For instance, an IoT connectivity equipment manufacturer from Lithuania chose Geehy’s APM32F072 series MCU for their vehicle tracking project, prioritizing performance, and timely supply. Similarly, Finland's leading elevator manufacturer picked the IEC61508 SIL3 certified APM32F103 series MCU for its elevators, taking into account the stringent industrial-grade reliability requirements. These collaborations highlight Geehy's prowess in R&D, product quality, and supply chain efficiency.
