The Weller RT family of active tips has so far been the solution for the most precise soldering of small and medium-sized joints.
Weller is coming up with the biggest expansion in recent years. It greatly extends the possibilities of soldering the smallest as well as really big joints.
The following picture says it all. We can see various tips, from subminiature to truly big tips.
Two new tools (handles)
It is clear that such a huge range of tip sizes cannot be used or it would be impractical to use with one type of handle. For the micro joints and tips, a micro tool is obviously suitable and, on the contrary, the larger joints/ tips require a bigger tool.
The result is that 3 series of tips and tools are available:
1) RT Pico with WXPP tool (40W) - for microscopic soldering of smallest parts up to 01005. A short distance from tip to tool grip for maximum precision.
2) RT Micro with WXMP tool (40W) - the most versatile series for micro and standard components offering the largest selection of sizes and geometry of tips.
3) RT Ultra with WXUP tool (150W) - for heavy work, requiring large amounts of heat and high precision. Suitable for LED soldering, solar installations, multi-layer PCBs, coolers and the like.
Why the term "active tip"?
The point is that the heater is an integral part of the tip and thus has the best possible heat transfer from the body to the tip. At the same time, the temperature sensor is directly in the tip, not at the end of the heater, as is common with technology where only the tip is to be changed.
The fact that we measure the tip temperature directly makes it possible to react very flexibly to changes in the required power while minimizing temperature fluctuations. As a result, heat-intensive joints can also be soldered with a relatively small tip, while small temperature fluctuations guarantee component protection.
All WX handles have a built-in motion sensor that allows for seamless use of standby/sleep mode to further extend the life of the tips as well as save the electricity.
