NB IoT, the Narrow-Band Internet of Things, is a special narrowband network designed to deliver data reliably, safely and cheaply. We wrote about it in our article Have you tried NB-IoT?
The network belongs to the group of LPWAN Networks (LowPowerWideAreaNetwork), which are used to transmit low volume data at low speeds. It allows devices two-way communication with bandwidth between 600bps and 250kbps.
Operators in Europe are literally competing in covering the territory of their countries with network as soon as possible. NB-IoT and LTE-M technology are a certain deposit for the future. MNOs (mobile network operators) are planning to gradually shut down 2G and 3G support and migrate to newer communications technologies such as 5G cellular mobile. 5th Generation is a new trend in mobile communications, and NB-IoT and LTE-M will be part of the 5G network standards.
What does it mean for the use?
To get started with NB-IoT, you need a SIM card from your operator and the module, or NB IoT development kit. The next step is up to you and your courage to go into development.
