Ozone and Health
Sources of Ground Level Ozone

NOx and VOCs are emitted to the atmosphere by cars, power plants, industrial boilers, refineries, chemical plants and similar sources.
Ozone is also produced by devices that use high voltage like laser printers and copy machines or devices in which an electric arc is generated, such as in commutator electric motors.
Effects of Ozone on Human Body

- 0.01 to 0.02 ppm: Feel smell
- 0.1 ppm: Feel a strong smell with irritation at nose and throat.
- 0.2 to 0.5 ppm: Visual deterioration in 3 to 6 hours.
- 0.5 ppm: Upper respiratory irritation.
- 1 to 2 ppm: Headache and a chest pain in 2 hours.
- 5 to 10 ppm: Increase in pulse rate, emphysema - chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- 50 ppm: Threat to life within 1 hour
The EU's Directive on Ambient Air Quality, 2008/50/EC, defines that the eight-hour moving average of 120 μg/m3 (60 ppb, 0.06 ppm) must not be exceeded for more than 25 days in a calendar year.
Ozone Against SARS-CoV-2 Virus
At least two studies confirmed that even low concentration of ozone can inactivate SARS-CoV-2 virus.
According to Confirmation of the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) inactivation effect of low-concentration ozone generated by Maxell's ozone anti-bacterial deodorizer 0.05ppm (50ppb) of ozone inactivate more than 99.9% of virus after 12 hours.
According to Murata Ionissimo Ionizer Module proven effective to inactivate Novel Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) 0.1ppm (100ppb) of ozone inactivate more than 99.9% of virus after 2 hours.
Nissha FIS Ozone Modules and Sensors
Nissha FIS offers two modules, A1320301-SP61 with SP-61 sensor and A1320301-SP361 with SP3-61-00 sensor and SP3-61-00 sensor itself.

Both modules have the same parameters, their main features are:
- Designed for continuous operation, expected lifetime is 2 years
- Alarm output switches on at 80ppb
- Detection range: 0 to 250ppb
- Output: voltage 0 to 5V or 0 to 1V
- Before the first use or if the module has been switched off for more than 1 week, it is necessary to keep the module switched on for min. 4 hours.
- If the module has been switched off for less than 1 week, it is ready for operation after 3 minutes.
Customized modules with detection range 0 to 1000ppb (1ppm) are available upon request.
